September 7, 2016 Familia Eternas, what would YOU do for one?-- Peronia, San Cristobal 14

Hey family and friends,

This week was absolutely amazing. Elder Araya is the Bomb and wants to become the Atomic Beast!!!! We are working on personal character development on the side of teaching repentance and baptizing converts to the Lord Jesus Christ.
This week on Sunday, so many wonderful people came to church. Claudia Vasquez, a nice young lady with an alcoholic Husband and a cast on her foot, came on Sunday. We met her in the street on Saturday and she poured out her needs to us. Our relief society president gave her a ride and she bore her testimony in sacrament meeting on Sunday starting with, "Hello, this is my first time ever to be here" It was a great testimony. Luis and Gloria came with their two little kids. They can feel the power that there is in the Atonement of Christ to repent and be washed clean of sins. They are willing to do anything to obtain their eternal family. They are also working towards a baptismal date right now. Adolfo Florian came as well and brought his family. His son Antoni is the one that is my best friend and we always do the ninja turtle handshake. Adolfo is the guy that sells food on the corner and always yells,"  HAAAARRRMAAAANOOOOOOSSSSS" (Brothers!). Kimberely Chopen came again and said we have to teach her more because she just wants to get baptized already.

Elder Araya and I also have been having a ton of fun. We wrote letters to Santa Claus as Christmas happened to jump off to the 3rd of October this year (conveniently at the end of changes). The next night we made a giant blanket fort. We are having a lot of fun here but in the things of the Lord as well. Elder Araya is like a brother to me. He is my first companion that is younger than me. But just by a bit.

Are we Valiant in our testimonies? I LOVE that word. That is the one word description of my personal plan and vision of the Future Elder Olson (Ammon). I want to be VALIANT. Look up Doctrine and Covenants 76. Those who do not inherent the Celestial Kingdom (where families can be eternal or forever) are those who were not valiant in their testimonies here on the Earth.

Mami Caffaro, My Mission President's wife, suggested that we enter buses singing to throw things for a swing. On my way here to write, I sang "I know that my redeemer lives" to the bus and then declared the restoration to all. Some very neat contacts came from that. There is not enough time left for us to do more or less of these things. We must ALWAYS declare and share the restored gospel. Our Savior is coming soon, we need to prepare the world. ALL OF US

I love you!!!!!
-Elder Olson

August 29, 2016 Familia Chopen . . . and the gringo tico -- Peronia, San Cristobal 13

Hey family and all you amazing other people,

This week was truly amazing. I received Elder Araya, a tico (from Costa Rica) that speaks perfect English. He is quite a fellow. He went on a student exchange program to Sacramento California where he stayed with a Mormon family, the Morgans. There he fell in love with the feeling of the Holy Ghost and returned to Costa Rica to be baptized. He was baptized two years ago. One year later, his mother was baptized. He LOVES Disney, high school musical, Glee, whichever other show that no man would ever admit to liking. However, this kid rocks it!!! He is super-duper fun and it is so hard to talk to him in one language. I always forget that English was his second language and that he is not from the states. He has one little brother, but he was kind of like the father of his little niece because her mother sort of abandoned her so he spent all of his time with her. I am his third companion. We are both in our second area though.

Well this week we baptized Yenifer Chopen and Nahomi Chopen. They are sisters. Their whole family came to the baptism AND to Church and they loved it! There are three more baptisms waiting in this soon to be Eternal family. WOW! These girls are really special. On Sunday in Elder's quorum, Raul, their father told everyone, "Elder Olson is a witness that at first, I tried to put the brakes on my daughters getting baptized, but I now know without a doubt that they only did was is the absolute best for them.

I love you all a ton load!!!! I also got the mini quadruple scriptures this week. They are super light. I feel like I'm flying around Peronia now.

Oh also a lady let us in to sing Families Can be Together Forever and in the middle her husband got home and was super angry and was really rude to us, then as we were going to leave, he came back and asked us to come in. He said, "As I walked from you guys to the back, something beautiful happened. I felt a warm peace that just took away all of my anger from this morning. I need to find out more about your church. Tell me everything."

I love the mission. I love the Lord.
I love you all too. Sorry if this is really short.

August 22, 2016 A Wise Man Walks by Faith -- Peronia, San Cristobal 12

Hey family!!!!
I love you all so much!
This week we have changes. Hermano De Leon becomes Wily once again and will be sent all the way to his home . . . about half a mile away.
I will be staying here in Peronia and I will be receiving Elder Araya from Costa Rica.

This week was very special. Here is an excerpt from my letter to President Caffaro:

"It was evident after reading your letter that there was a fecha de compromiso in our area. As it came down to it, the only eligible investigator was Nahomy Urisandy. On Friday, we went to teach her along with her two sisters. During the lesson, Nahomy said, "I want to follow Jesus Christ and I want to show my Heavenly Father that I love him, but I DO NOT want to be baptized." Your words came to my mind "Cada compaƱerismo ponga una fecha de compromiso esta semana.šŸ˜‡ Sin faltar. Tengan la fe, diligencia, la obediencia con exactitud y verĆ”n milagros. Les prometo!" I wanted to say something directed by the spirit but just profound as can be to change her, but as I offered a prayer of faith, I felt to keep silent. After a moment the member shared a marvelous experience and after, my companion spoke. The room FILLED with the spirit. As it came my turn to speak, my eyes filled with tears. She excitedly accepted the invitation to pray. On Saturday her whole family went to hear Elder Cook. On Sunday, we asked if she prayed and how she felt, and she said, "I received my answer. I want to be baptized this Saturday with my sister."
Thank you for having the faith in the Lord to challenge us to this. The Lord has done a great work here."

I used to want to be so righteous that angels would visit me, but the Lord teaches us that a wise man walks by faith. In Faith is POWER. We need to keep the faith and have more. Our faith manifests itself within our actions. ACT exactly according to what the Lord has asked and commanded. Worry about the things of the Lord afterwards and you will see the miracles!!!!!

This mission is so special. There is no substitute for the mission. I love you all so much!!!!
Read the scriptures!!!!! They are so special for YOU!!!! But don't just read to read. Set apart a time to STUDY!!!!! Say a prayer before and dedicate the time towards being God's investigator so that the Spirit can teach you. You will not want to stop.

Find your whisper. Find your unquenchable thirst. .  . for the Word of God.

Love,
Elder Olson

September 12, 2016 The Midnight Attack -- Peronia, San Cristobal 15

Okay family and all you awesomes!!!! First of all, HAPPPYYY BIIIRRTTHHHDAYYYYY SSSAAAAAMMUUUUEEEEELLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!! You are 12 already?!

Now just close and open it again tomorrow. ..   .    .  .
HAAAAAPPPPPPYYYYY BBBBIIIIIRRRRTTTTHHHDDDAAAYYYYY JJAARROOOMMMM!!!!!
26!!!!

Well this week has been amazing. I have been using mom's awesome sewing skills to get a ton of contacts, lessons, and visits. I taught one lady how to crochet. Another, I visited to fix her sewing machine, and then I remembered in that Utah family reunion way long ago in the Lodge with pool and Ping-Pong where we did that skit where I got to eat fruit loops for my whole part and the other year our skit was when Jacob pulled the Leprechaun hat down over Seth’s face and I yelled out, HEY THIS IS A STICKUP!!!!! Well, there. Afterwards, Dad passed out mini looms to everyone. (A block of wood with a hole drilled in the center and four nails to make a loomed rope that comes out. Jarom made the longest). Well in front of Mommy Glendy we have a carpenter bud that makes those for me for 5 quets which is right around 75 cents. The People love those.

Luis and Gloria are progressing like insanely crazy fast and want their eternal family more than anything!!!! The Gospel is so amazing!!! We are focusing on preaching, teaching, and declaring repentance but EXACTLY where it hits. If a man is smoking, I will not teach about keeping the Sabbath day holy, . . . I am going to DECLARE that HE NEEDS TO QUIT SMOKING!!!! If they are not married GET MARRIED!!!!!!. If they work on Sundays, STOP .  .   . and GO TO CHURCH. Just to clarify, I am not walking around yelling at everyone, nor am only telling them to change. You cannot combat an application of the Gospel with another Application. Christ never did that. The only way to combat an application in error is to teach the overlying principle, or even better, a step up, the doctrine behind it. They apply the chastisement themselves. We are seeing progress. Those who are not living in compliance with the standards, commandments, and rules of our Heavenly Father, they simply cannot enjoy all of the Joy and Peace that there is. That helps me to be valiant in opening their eyes to how change will make them more happy.

The rain here comes in like a wall of water, It is SOOOO cool. You can hear it coming and in the day you can even see it. You can be 100% dry and have a POURING world right next to you until it hits you. The clouds are a lot closer here so the storms move around very quickly.

Well on Saturday, our comedor (food lady/mommy) invited us to dinner in which the whole family came and they made us burritos. Then as I was getting ready to leave, they all came back out with a GIANT 3 leche cake. They told me it's custom to take the first bite with my mouth, .. .. .. then smashed my face in it.

Last night, Elder Araya super surprised me at midnight. Well first, he snuck up behind me at my desk and blew up a giant popper of confetti all over me. Then told me we had to go to bed. Something felt weird under my head, there was a present there. As I opened it, it was socks and a whole set of permanent markers. I thanked him again and something still felt weird. Inside the pillow was Costa Rican hair wax. It's super awesome because when it gets wet in the rain it doesn't make your whole head gelly and gross.  .   .   . still felt something. He got me a snazzy alarm clock. AWESOME!!!!!! Then .   .   . at midnight, my companion told me to follow him with eyes closed. Then he gave me a bambooish pole. As I opened my eyes, I found a mini-me piƱata, which I DESTROYED with much joy. My comp is the best! He made me breakfast today as well.

Well there is a ton-bunch of more cooliboppin stuff to share, but asi es la vida. I love you all!!!

Love,
-Elder Olson

August 15, 2016 The Original Truths restored -- Peronia, San Cristobal 11

Well family. There is no time right now. The timing was messed up and two zones came to write so I don't have very much time.

This week I was studying "Preach My Gospel" and in chapter nine, it talks about how to find people. I learned that as we contact them, we need to teach them. I now contact by declaring that the original truths of God that have been lost for centuries HAVE BEEN RESTORED through a living day prophet. There is EVIDENCE of this. . . The Book of Mormon. Read it. We are finding some really neat people by doing this.

Jennifer Chopen turned 18 last Sunday and will be baptized the 27th of August. She is amazing and only has about 5 siblings that will soon be following her example along with her father.

Leave and strive through your day to be that valiant child of God that He sees you to be. Do all your acts with a prayer of Faith. Those that believe can do ALL things. If one believes, he will act, THEN God will bless him, he will believe more, .  .  . and act more. It only goes up. Believe and Act. Pray daily for missionary opportunities.

This week we taught our first English class in Peronia and Invited about 300 people and they ALL came!!!!!! Well minus just about 294 of them. HA! 6 members came, but I love teaching. It is so much fun. I got that from Mommy and Papiodadio. Thanks.

This mission is so amazing. I love you all. I love God just a bit more.
Love,
Elder Olson

August 8, 2016 Told ya so . . .almost --Peronia, San Cristobal 10

Well family,

This week was absolutely awesome!!!!!! You may be sick of hearing that but it is true. I AM SERVING THE LORD WITH ALL I HAVE!!!!! Who wouldn't love it?

Well this week, I started what is called a 40 day fast. It was a challenge from our mission president. I had already done it twice before, but this time was even more special because I didn't think I had anything to give up. I fasted for real one day and it came to me what I needed to sacrifice to be more consecrated and enjoy the spirit more.
For 40 days, fast not from food or water, but from the little things that hurt you spiritually. The things that keep you from feeling in harmony with the Lord, or in obedience to ALL of His commandments. One for me is that I cannot get mad at my companion. Another is I cannot feel pitiful or self-sorry.
Do it. Pray and ask your Father in Heaven, "What lack I yet?" He will tell you.

Also, look up the talk form Elder Jeffery R. Holland "What Lack I Yet?"

Well this week I have felt the spirit and we are finding people and teaching them like never before. I love my life.  .    .  because the Lord is directing it. You can have this too!!!

Also, this week, Hermano De Leon, my companion wanted to boil eggs but didn't want to wait for the water to boil. So he put them in a metal pot and into the microwave they went. I stopped it and told him that metal makes it explode. He didn't believe me but changed containers. Then I remembered that a lot of water also explodes. I almost told him . . . . It exploded. All over our house. All over him. It was very interesting. The microwave still works though.
I love you all a ton!!!

August 1 2016 Suffer with patience thy afflictions -- Peronia, San Cristobal 9

Hey family,

Before all, I just wanted to thank so much Uncle Jeff and Mommy Olson. Hermano De Leon couldn't believe that you guys wrote him. He is so happy! And especially thank you to all of you who wrote to Elder Marroquin. I have no way of knowing who wrote to him, but when I was his companion and one of you wrote to him, he couldn't stop talking about it all day.

Okay, well this week was really interesting. It was one of those amazing testimony builders. Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people? Does God ignore us? Or is He mad at us? NO!!!!!! It's because He loves us!!!! We have to remember His whole purpose of glorious being:
Moses 1:39
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
He wants us ALL to progress immensely. Can you imagine if your parents (or you with your children) just held you by the hand your whole life because they "love you so much"? pffffff. We wouldn't become anyone!
A prophet of God once said, "If it's not challenging, you will know that God has given up on you" I believe it was Jeffery R. Holland (apostol).

Well, this week we helped one of our investigators, Didiari, seal cologne (that scent spray stuff that everyone in the world down here uses and many up there). He works for the companies that make that. They send him a concentrate and bottles and he has to make them in his lab in his house and balance the colors and everything. It was a neat experience.

On Saturday, we had a ward movie night as a missionary activity of "Meet the Mormons" and Fernando came!!! He was just a guy I contacted in the Street. Wow. He is really neat and really wants to learn everything! . . .  including ENGLISH. I'm thinking about starting a class here in Peronia.

We also had a feeling one day to spontaneously visit a contact and Wow!! Brigido and Mirna. They are evangelicos and at first were really really against anything else, but something caught their attention when we invited them to ask God.

We also carried water up a hill in buckets for about an hour in order to have a lesson with one of our investigators because water arrives at the bottom of the Hill every two days and they live at the top. That was fun as well.

Also, we as children of our Heavenly Father, have free will. A very true principle first taught to me by Jacob (my brother) is that we were not given free will to do whatever we want. Rather, we were given free will or free agency to CHOOSE God over all. Are we doing that? Are you doing that?
Doctrine and Covenants 58:26-27
26 For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.
 27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;
28 For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward.
We need to become the valiant children that God hopes for us to choose to be. I love you all dearly!
-Elder Olson
P.S. read 2 Nephi 2:27

27 Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man.  And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.

July 25 Light Saber Surgery -- Peronia, San Cristobal 8

Hey Familia, amigos, y mucha,

This week was super awesome! I just have a question for y'all; Have you ever had a light saber surgery?    .    .     .  Because I have.

For the past 7 weeks, I have had a growth on the inside of my lower lip that just kept getting bigger and bigger and well bigger. It was getting really annoying to talk and smile. Over time, I kind of got really used to it, but I really didn't want it to be there forever. Then one day, it turned really purple and a member said I HAD to do something about it. Well, I sent a message to Hermana Caffaro, our mom and nurse, and she had me make an appointment with a dermatologist right next to the temple. Well, the lady, Dr. Wolmers, was really nice and spoke English. She said that it appeared to be a swollen gland and could possibly go away so there was nothing to worry about. Then she said, "Well, do you want it or do you not want it." As I answered that I did not want it, she (a fancy lady in a dress and high heels) threw on a little hair cap and said, "Lay down". Then she pulled over a cart with a metal box on it (looked like a welder) She rubbed a little bit of numb gel on my lip and pulled out an electric wand (like a marker with a little piece of metal sticking out of it). Then she said, "This might be very hot, well, it's just going to sting a ton. If you want an injection to numb you let me know." Then she grabbed the growth with doctor tweezers and went at it. It buzzed then stung a ton (woman of her word). I just saw smoke rising from my lip with each zap. To be honest, I don't think I'll have another experience like this in my life. As she was zapping/burning/cutting, she said to her assistant in Spanish, "Wow, come here! You have to see this. It is so cool! . . . oh also grab a napkin so the blood doesn't stain his shirt." Well other than a bit of blood here and there, as she cut, the heat sealed the skin so there was no stitches or anything. She just finished cutting it out (a bit bigger than a pea), and said, "Wow, that is a lot bigger than I thought. Well, I'll send this to the lab to make sure it's not cancer. You can go now." She just left me with a sealed hole in my lip and said, "Your lip is made of mucous membrane so it will grow in in a couple days" It's already filled in. This was on Friday. It's like when Obi-wan-Kenobi cut off all of the arms and legs of Anican Skywalker, but the light saber sealed the wounds.

Other than that, Hermano De Leon received the Melchizedek Priesthood on Sunday and he is super pumped to give a blessing. He is really neat.

Elder Marroquin's brother (Marroquin was my trainer) died this week from his cancer. I don't know if you guys could e-mail him and thank him for all he does or whatever you feel. I love that kid.
jorge.marroquin@myldsmail.net

Also, my companion never receives e-mails because he's on a mini mission and hardly talks to his parents. Could you send him something too?
wilygdeleon@gmail.com

If you could write in Spanish is would be best, but if not, they'll figure it out. Just write them.

OH, also, On Sunday morning, at 7 a.m. we had to do divisions so that my companion could go all the way up to the stake to get an interview to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and I had to go up to the Jerusalen Branch to participate in the Baptism of Janeth.
Then later was the baptism of two 8 year olds, Marvin and Mayerly, who asked me to participate in theirs as well. Sunday was a very special day.

On Thursday, one of the assistants to the president, Elder Williams, came out to work with us. He is from Syracuse Utah and LOVES basketball. He is super tall too (6'6"). His best friend just came home from the Chile Osorno mission on the same day as Annamarie: Elder Ryan Warner. That was a fun day.

The mission is absolutely amazing. I never could understand or become what the Gospel has for me if I were not here. THERE IS NO SUBSITUTE FOR A MISSION.

Wow, it's fun!  .   .   . because it's hard.
Love you ALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 18 There and Back again Peronia San Cristobal 7

Wow. Nothing happened this week.

NOT!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!

Okay, well to put it in short, I have had 4 companionships this week and changed areas (but now I'm back), and I was kind of zone leader but now I'm not again, and my new companion is not an Elder.

I had two companions who had to leave the mission.

Then I moved up to Jerusalen with the Zone Leaders and this was our trio. My new companions were Elder Jensen from Syracuse Utah and Elder Vasquez from Panama. It was super amazing and we saw absolute miracles in finding people just waiting for the Gospel. On Friday, President Caffaro called me to see how I was doing and that he was proud of me. He also said nothing was my fault. Then he asked me if by chance there were any young adults preparing to serve missions.

WILY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wily Guadalupe De Leon is a 20 year old humble amazing kid (recent convert). He popped right into my mind the second President asked me. We called all around as fast as we could and President Caffaro even called Salt Lake City to ask permission, but the arrangements were made.

On Saturday night, I moved back down to Peronia and Hermano De Leon came to sleep there with me to start his mini-mission (He doesn't have the Melquesidek Priesthood yet, but we're working on it). He is so innocent and pure. I love this kid. Well, President visited our ward this Sunday and brought Hermano De Leon white shirts, ties, mission supplies, and a ton of love.

President told me I should tell you guys that this has never been done before in Guatemala. How Fun!!!!!! So I'm technically a trainer with my first kid!!!!!!! He just wants to work and learn and everything. He was born and raised in Peten, Guatemala out in a village in the mountains in the pure jungle. There, there are monkeys and toucans and parrots that just live wild in their village and all around. Just about a year ago, he moved here and was quickly baptized.

Yesterday, as we opened our door after studies, we saw our neighbors (a couple with their kids) sitting outside. I decided we'd contact them to get some experience for my companion. GOLD!!!!!! They have been waiting for us. They love the message and already have a baptismal date. The miracles are real. We are going to search for them with all our heart, might, mind, and strength.

But other than that, nothing much really happened. ;)

I am so excited!!!!!!

Annamarie, hey.
(So weird)

Love,

Elder Olson

Changes and dirt -- Peronia, San Cristobal 6

Well tomorrow are changes and Elder Diaz is leaving. :~( We were really starting to get along. He is more than happy to kiss the stairs goodbye. He wanted to go super far like outside of the Capital where I was, but the Lord needs him here close by. He is going to Roosevelt (where I am writing right now). I am receiving Elder Ngungutau from Tonga (Texas but he's Tongan). You might recognize that name because he was in my district for four and a half months and we did divisions together. He is really awesome and the members always LOVE him. He was asked to be on the American Professional Rugby Team or something like that but he decided to work in the airport instead. I'm not 100% sure about his story, but hey that's why I've got 6 weeks to go with him. He goes home in October with Elder Galvan. He was his companion in the CCM (Missionary Training Center).

Well this week was actually really special. The members are working with us a ton and they are just so amazing. I found a giant tarp/poster thingy of a google maps (just white streets) of Peronia, but it was blank and without a single name. During the day, I ask people names of the streets and how to get places then I map it out in my planner and in the night or morning, I update my map. There is a lot of the map missing too so I'm figuring out relationships and angles too to draw in the rest. I like geography. Hey if you can find Peronia in Zone 8 of Villa Nueva, there is a HUGE volcano to the side in a specific direction (I'm not oriented yet ;) ). This is the Volcano that I saw in the plane here that looked like a HUGE mountain (while we were still above all of the clouds) then we descended and I saw the rest underneath. It is gorgeous. I am going to try to get a picture today.

Well two teenage girls, Jennifer and Nahomy, were going to get baptized this weekend, but in the end their Dad asked that they please wait just two months before they get into something so serious. He is very strongly not-Mormon, so it was amazing that he even let us into the house (thanks to familia Aguilar!!!!) I spoke very directly and plainly to him about the Book of Mormon and how EVERYTHING depends on if the Book of Mormon is true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is 100% the true church of Jesus Christ himself, or it is 100% false because of the base of its declaration. Everything depends on the answer that God gives the people personally. The invitation is perfect. Ask God--You can’t go wrong. In the end, He accepted the invitation and challenge to read the Book of Mormon and he said, "Who knows? We might get involved with [our daughters]" That was neat.

Well I love you all a ton bunch!!! I wish chocolate bananas and black beans for all!!! With permission of mom, Graham Crackers and Peanut Butter for everyone!!!! (I don't have those to give).

The church is true. We are here to progress. Trials and afflictions are a blessing for our learning and growth. God loves us and only wants us to return honorable to His presence. He is our Father and our personal families can be Eternal (together forever!) They WILL be eternal and Grandma Olson declares so firmly. What are you willing to do to make/have your eternal marriage and eternal family? If you are not exactly sure what that means, ask a Mormon.  . . . Then read the Book of Mormon.

I love you all.

Oh yea, the dirt. On Saturday, we moved/dumped a pile of dirt the size of a whole yard and the height up to the waist by filling up gunny sacks with dirt and carrying them up and down stairs, through an itty bitty hole in a fence and dumping them off of the side of a canyon.

Well I love you all a lot a lot a lot. Like a super-hopper-jumper-spik'n-ninja lot.
(If you don't understand, ask an Olson or Samuel)

Love,
Elder Olson

July 4, 2016 What a shocker! -- Peronia, San Cristobal 5

Hey family,

Happy fourth of July!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bueno, This week was an extremely long one!!!

I don't have too many amazing experiences to share, but um . . . I got shocked in the shower. Here in Guatemala, water heaters don't exist, so you make a really big shower head to hold a lot of water before it leaves and throw a whole ton-load of electricity into it and whalaaa! You have hot water. Well, in our house, we have two bathrooms. One is super-duper small (mine) and the other super king (Elder Diaz), but all of our electricity is on the same circuit. So if we shower at the same time, a ton-load of electricity here and a ton-load there equals no electricity and freezing cold water for everyone. (I already had super cold water for my first six months, but still, hot water is nice.) Anyway, we were short on time to get ready and Elder Diaz was in the shower. I ran all around and turned off all of the lights then jumped in the dark shower and used only bursts of water quickly then turned it off as fast as I could (as to not turn of the hot water for Elder Diaz). Well in one burst, I raised my arm super-fast to wash off soap and tada!!! My arm had a very soothing and lovely ZAP!!! I finished my shower and then turned on the light to look. The high-tech shower head had a ground wire designed to prevent shacking someone, but someone had graciously cut it so I got to act as the ground.  :).

Well this week, Jennifer told us that she received her answer and she wants to be baptized! She will be baptized this Saturday hopefully with her little sister Nahomy. Woohooo!!!

I love you all very much.

"For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" - Jesus Christ. He will not take away our burdens and afflictions but he will strengthen us under them. LOVE YOU ALLL!!!!!!!

June 27, 2016 Swallowed Up in the Joy of Christ -- Peronia, San Cristobal 4

Hey people,
This week was super awesome . . . well obviously, I'M ON A MISSION!!!!!!!!

First, Anderson Martinez was baptized this Saturday by his reactivated dad. That was super awesome and is the frute of much hard labor . . . of other missionaries. ;)

I had my first baptismal interview as a District Leader which was amazing. It was with a young adult woman from Jerusalen. It was a very spiritual experience and I could feel directed in each and everything to say. This week I also had my first District Council that I led, but I was rather nervous for having to lead and direct SO MANY PEOPLE. In my old district in Nueva Santa Rosa, there were 8 missionaries in my district, but here. . . Including me, there were a whole 3 people present. HA! However, the Lord knows my weeknesses and so I'm on training wheels to learn.

I LOVE MY MISSION!!!

IT IS INCREDIBLY HARD!!!

BUT THAT MAKES IT SO AWESOME!!!!

I am near to finishing the Book of Mormon in Spanish and all of the great profits and missionaries of ancient times speak about all of their unbelievable trials and afflictions. It's difficult to imagine what they went through, but so many of them talk about how they were swallowed up in the joy of Christ. Have you ever tried to let yourself do that, or let that happen to you? I have. For that, this transfer has been the most joyful of all. My situations may not be nice or even good, but I can be happy. Have you ever thought of how absolutley and eternally lost we would all be without Christ and the pain of all of our sins would bring us if we didn't have the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ and then applying it. Have you noticed the pure beauty of the world? Find the joy. Let it consume you.

I had some mission business stuff so I don't have too much time. Just know that I love you. ALL of you.

Our ward is amazing. They want to help us more than we are asking, so we are behind for a change. Do that to your missionaries. Offer your help til they are overwhelmed and don't have any excuse to not have success.

LOVE,
-Elder Olson

Well this week was super duper awesome. I am just blown away by the members here. They are so good! They all just take what we have to say and put it in practice without question. Now, embarrassingly, we are the ones behind that need to get better at coordinating and planning. I love growing experiences!!!

This Friday, we had another beloved Multi-Zone Conference. This one was powerful! Why? Because our President is a man called of God and directed by him. The comments and discussions that are the most powerful are not measured by how they come, but where they go and how they are received. They hit home.

The topic of the prayer of faith and all of the blessings related was brought up a lot. CHALLENGE: Find the scriptures related to "prayer of faith". Do we ask God to relieve us of our difficulties and challenges, or do we put faith in Him and His power and His work within us and ask for strength to move forward? Remember, His yoke is easy and His burden is light. . . not because he lifts the burden, but because He strengthens us beneath them.

Also, Hermana Mackelprang and I sang a duet during it: #192 ¿Por QuĆ© Somos? (In English, the tune is the same but everything is different . . . #107 Lord, accept our true devotion . . . I think) Hermana Mackelprang was EXTREMELY nervous, but me . . . nah. I was calm and confident  . . . until I started to sing. It was practically a sing and dance show because my legs were shaking so much . . . and to make it better, for my height, my legs were well above the podium wall so EVERYONE SAW and were laughing under their breathe. However, it ended up pretty pretty. I liked it.

And . . . I SAW ELDER TAYLOR GROVER!!!!! Woo Hooo! That was my one chance to see him before he goes home and the mission was divided in three to have smaller conferences. So I got the 1 in 3 chance and saw him. We didn't really know what to say, so we didn't really say anything, but the occurrence of it was awesome. If you don't know, He is from my stake in Orange, California, and our Stake President, Matthew Goodman, who set us both apart is here in Guatemala too as a Mission President of Rhetauleuh where my Mission Prep Center companion Elder Rock is serving.

Well Obedience brings happiness. Obedience shows our love for God. Obedience is how we get to know our Heavenly Father more and become closer to Him.

I love you all so much. Keep being awesome and obedient. Open your mouth when you get that strange feeling that you should to share the Gospel. Everyone is looking for the Gospel of Jesus Christ whether they know it or not.

Happy birthday mommy!!!!!
We are going to have a party for you with the Daly's (Elderly Couple) in our English Class this Thursday. They will bring cake and I will bring balloons. It is actually for you! I told them and they decided to celebrate it.

Love,
Elder Olson

June 14, The Wall of Water and Happy Birthday Daniel! Peronia, San Cristobal 2

Hey people!

This week was really special! I really love being a missionary! What could be better to have this time free of other worries to dedicate 100% of my time, heart, might, mind, and strength to the Lord and to the children of our Heavenly Father?

Last week, I prepared with all my energy for my first District Council and the Zone Leaders changed it into a Zone Council. Oh well, I'll prepare for next week . . . Letter form the president: We will not be having District Councils this week on Tuesday due to the multi zone conference. Interesting.

This week we have seen a lot of progress in our investigators though they be few and especially in our ward's desire to back us up and work with us shoulder to shoulder.

The other day, we were leaving a lesson that we had in a member’s house and it had been raining but was completely dry when we left. As we came to the end of the street, I suddenly heard POURING rain and figured we were done for, but we were dry. We went around the corner and saw all over Peronia absolutely heavy rainfall and right before our eyes, but we were puzzled; we were dry. Then it came clear. There was a WALL of water raging toward us. We turned and ran up and up and up the stairs to the member’s house, but about half way up, it caught us.

It rains all the time right now and the other day we had our first hail storm accompanied by ravenous wind. They say from now on, each storm is going to start with a tone of Hail. Woohoo!

Andersen's dad finally decided that his son isn't responsible for his personal problems and set a baptismal date for him with the bishop!!

Monica found her DPI (ID of Guatemala) so she can get married to Didiari, who makes perfume/cologne in his house for a business. They are super stoked to get baptized.

Adolfo's little brother Juan Carlos came to the temple to visit and now wants to get baptized this month too!!! He's gonna start going to seminary tonight.

I love you all so very much. Read the scriptures more and seek an unquenchable thirst for the word of God. Do so until you feel that the Gospel is more real than your shoe, or even your hand, then . . . double your efforts. That's where it gets really fun!

I love you all so much.
The whole world should know that the earth's buffest and most radical stud just turned fourteen. I heard on the streets that his name is Lamoni, but not to intimidate so much, he goes by Daniel.

Have a great week! You are all so amazing.

If you are reading this, your Heavenly Father loves you more than you can imagine. Allow him to change your life for the better.
